Operación Triunfo will not select Spain’s Eurovision Entry

Although Operación Triunfo auditions for the next season are set to begin in October, it has now been announced that the television programme will not be used to select the Spanish Eurovision entry for 2020.

The Director of Content for Spanish broadcaster TVE has confirmed that the talent show will not be used as it has over the last two years. Although Operación Triunfo will not be used, it has been said that the broadcaster is yet to confirm whether a public or internal selection will be used instead. The last time Spain selected internally was in 2015 with Edurne.

It also seems that Rosalía is on the top of the broadcaster’s wishlist, however the Director of Content at TVE, Fernando López Puig explained that trying to secure a bigger star for Eurovision has proven to be difficult.

Operación Triunfo will begin airing in January on TVE. Stay tuned for more Eurovision news from Spain!
